The rags are made of different materials (natural and synthetic). “Home” remnants of old clothes do not meet the requirements for cleaning modern premises. Nowadays, a whole industry makes a variety of home furnishings according to individual needs. The choice depends on the material with which the floor is covered. It can be parquet, laminate, linoleum or tile.
Washing the floors with a special cloth at least once, you will not want to go back to using the old towel. Modern materials have many indisputable advantages:

Cotton

Despite the list of advantages, cotton rags have several disadvantages:
- shrinkage after heat treatment;
- lose their shape during cleaning;

Cotton rags with added polyester are durable and leave fewer stripes on the parquet.
Viscose

Among the disadvantages, the homeowners note instability to high temperatures. The water in the rinsing bucket must be cold when using such a product. The second disadvantage is remaining stains when cleaning the too-dirty floor. You can avoid it by choosing a rag that contains viscose and polyester.
Microfibre
Microfibre is a Japanese discovery from the late 20th century. It is a “favourite” among women and men (men use such rags when washing and cleaning cars). Microfibre has a unique structure. Thanks to the ultra-fine fibres, the fabric immediately absorbs water, dirt, dust and other possible contaminants.

- Hygroscopicity. The fibres are woven so that there is a lot of space between them. Under the microscope, the microfibre structure resembles that of a sponge. It can absorb four times more liquid than any other substance. However, the water does not stay in after squeezing, which makes the cloth almost dry to the touch.

There are also disadvantages:
- The material does not tolerate heat treatment. The microfibre cloth should not be dried in hot dryers or washed at high temperatures.
- It can build static electricity, which is a dust magnet.
- All praised properties are blocked when interacting with fats. Therefore, cleaning the floors in the kitchen is best done with a different cloth.
All rags should be periodically disinfected and washed at a water temperature not exceeding 40 degrees and used strictly for their intended purpose.
